Annville-Cleona

Our community has gone through some tough times with the recent flood that hit in September. Thirty something families in our district are still struggling to get back on their feet or for some to get back into their homes. Several families are probably going to have to part with their homes and find a new place to live since their houses have been condemned and the township is telling them they will not be able to rebuild where their crumbled home currently stands. Most of us were lucky and only had to worry about a few inches of water in our basement! It is hard to imagine what these families are going through and the long process it will take them to live a "normal" life again. The Annville-Cleona School District wanted to help in any way that we could to show support to these families. Several administrators and teachers decided to put together a one mile fun run/walk as well as a car show to raise some money to help. The event was a success with over 120 participants in the fun run/walk and thirty cars for the car show. Several organizations including A-C's Key Club had stands set-up to help make more money for the event. Key Club got a generous donation of products from the Stewart's Peddler Store in Cleona. All of the merchandise we could sell for whatever amount we wanted. All of the money made was pure profit. We sold flags, stuffed animals, SillyBanz, easter baskets, and many other items. We braved the windy day and were able to make $172. Not a bad profit since most items were being sold for $1 a piece. The entire event turned out to be a huge success and we were able to raise about $2500 that day. All of the money will be divided among the flood victim families and gift cards will be purchased to help aid their recovery from this unfortunate event.
